Choosing the perfect name for a child is tough. When expecting our daughter, we found hundreds of books and dozens of web sites -- most of which had the same 20,000 names listed alphabetically. (Hint: Not helpful.) Few sites made their lists available for download or made any sophisticated attempt at helping me consider some basic criteria (maybe we like short names, or names of exotic cities) or in learning my preferences.

I knew that with a little work, I could make all this information FREELY available to expecting parents everywhere.

BrilliantBabyNames.com has 200,000 names -- nearly ten times as many names as most books and other Web sites, but is incredibly simple to use. We have some of the most advanced searching and matching tools you'll find -- and we're adding more every day. Registration isn't required, but if you do choose to sign up, we'll keep track of your favorites (and not-so-favorites) -- and as you build favorites, our state-of-the-art recommendation system will make BRILLIANT recommendations. Any list of names you generate is available as a free download. Using BrilliantBabyNames is easy! Start by entering the baby's LAST name in the search box on the home page. Why? Because first names and last names are always a pair. When you click the "Find Names" button, our search applies some criteria you may want to consider -- for example, that the first name ends with the same letter that the last name starts with (e.g., James Stone), or that the name either is or is not a popular one. Add a few thumbs-up ratings to your favorites, and you're well on your way to getting BRILLIANT recommendations both on the site and by email.

I designed and built BrilliantBabyNames.com because I felt strongly that the wondrous range of names -- from the tried-and-true to the exotic -- should be available to everyone. (Just between us, I had to learn a programming language to do it.) I hope that if enough people find the site useful, we'll receive enough revenue from Google ads, the Amazon store, donations, and subscriptions to hopefully make a dent in our daughter's college fund.
