Editorial Policy

Original content

About sections that carry an editorial summary are written by Brilliant Baby Names. We do not copy, scrape, or paraphrase competitor pages. A name profile is submitted to search only when the About that is shown is an editorial summary rather than a catalog template or a promotional slogan.

Many names stay in the public catalog with a reviewed origin, a reviewed meaning, and U.S. Social Security popularity data, and with either a short catalog template or a promotional About. Those pages remain available for browsing and are marked noindex. We do not invent etymologies, folklore, or middle-name suggestions to make a template profile look unique. Stock middle-name lists are not added. “More names like this” stays inside the same origin, meaning, or letter, and the section is omitted when that pool is too small.

Accuracy and updates

We review origin and meaning before a name enters the public catalog. When SSA popularity files update (typically annually), we refresh the relevant figures site-wide. Documented corrections from readers are reviewed and applied when the evidence supports a change. Where an About paragraph is still the short catalog template, treat the origin and meaning lines as the reviewed facts and the paragraph as a placeholder, not an essay.

Sources

Popularity tables cite U.S. Social Security Administration data. Meanings and origins are editorial summaries, not government facts. For a name to enter editorial staging, a credible source must directly support both the stated meaning and origin; the source URL, claim, and review decision are retained for review. The methodology page explains that split and how names qualify for public discovery.

Uncertainty and prohibited claims

When references disagree or the evidence is incomplete, we qualify the wording or hold the claim for review rather than presenting a disputed etymology as settled fact. We do not invent meanings, origins, pronunciation guidance, popularity claims, expert bylines, or sources, and we do not imply that an SSA ranking predicts a name's quality or future popularity.

Independence

Editorial content is independent of advertising. Sponsored placements, when present, are labeled. Name recommendations and rankings are never sold. We do not invent individual expert bylines; the publisher is Brilliant Baby Names.
